Week 18 - Goblins, Cyclops, and Battle Audio

Exciting week for Beneath the Mountain! We've added goblins and cyclopses to the orc invasions, as well as a ton of combat audio. Lets check out some of the cool stuff I've been working on this last week.

The Cyclops

The cyclops is the giant-sized unit for the orcs, that will come stomping its way into the mountain at the tail end of the orc invasions. I made only minor edits to the model. I modified the color of the model to be less reddish and added a few shoulder spikes (because everything needs a few spikes). Really love the way this unit feels in game, and you can hear its heavy footsteps from far away!

Goblins!

Really the whole orc invasion doesn't feel right unless you've got a horde of squealing goblins racing ahead, rushing forward to engage and soften up dwarven lines. I LOVE these models, as while I still need a few new animations for these ones, I was really happy with how I managed to turn the original version (in purple) into two variants. The variants have different stats based on their armor and weapon combos.

Combat Audio

I put a TON of work into the combat audio. Seriously, look at all the different sound effects that go into a single unit:

And thats not even all of them! I just couldn't fit any more on that screenshot lol. Anyway, I'm really happy with how the combat audio is coming along. You can get a feel for it here:

The version on youtube is missing the combat battle music, which the latest build uses.

Next Week

This week was again a busy week for me with IRL stuff, however, after the end of May, I shouldn't have anything coming up to get in the way of development. Thanks again for checking out my game and the devlog. Every little comment and bit of feedback helps (and it makes my day really). See you next week!
